Maphumulo court hands down life sentences for two murderers

Men sentenced to imprisonment after killing two in 2013.

Two men were sentenced to two life sentences yesterday in the Maphumulo Regional Court for two counts of murder.

The 26-year-old Mlungisi Khanyile was sentenced to two life imprisonment for two counts of murder, 15 years for house robbery and three years for possession of unlicensed firearm and Sakhokwakhe Mzobe was also sentenced to two life sentences for two counts of murder.

In October 2013, Khanyile and another man allegedly went to a house at Esihlushwaneni area, Maphumulo where they held the owner of the house at gunpoint demanding the safe keys.

They assaulted him and took two 9mm pistols and fled the scene.

In December of that year, the bodies of Nkosinathi Yini Ndlovu (63) and Magenqele Ngcobo (61) were found next to the road with gunshot wounds.

It is alleged that the two deceased were on their way home when they met the two known suspects who opened fire and the two men died.

Maphumulo detectives took over the investigation and the two were arrested in December and January 2014 for murder.

Khanyile was also linked to the house robbery case that took place in October 2013 where two firearms were taken.

The firearms taken in the house robbery were the same firearms used to commit the murder of Ndlovu and Ngcobo.

Further investigations revealed that Sakhokwakhe Mzobe was wanted for the murder case committed at Kholwa Road, KwaMashu Men’s Hostel where Nonhlanhla Kiki Mkhwanazi was allegedly shot dead.

The offence was committed in November 2012. Mzobe is already serving a 17 years imprisonment that was meted out to him last year for killing Kiki.
