A shy, adult dog living on a patch of grass at the N2 Stanger off ramp has been catching people’s attention for the past few weeks.
Two dog lovers have been trying to make friends with the skittish, tan coloured dog in order to rescue it.
Ivan Kisten said he has been trying to get the dog off the dangerous patch between the N2 and the off ramp for about a month.
“The SPCA told me they know about the dog and have tried to catch him, but have not had any luck. I have been bringing him food and water and have seen other people leave bowls of food for him, but he is too scared to come to anyone,” said Kisten.
“He comes when I whistle, but he stops about 10 metres away and waits for me to leave before he eats.”
Salt Rock’s Richard Spears has also tried to gain the stressed stray’s trust with biltong bits.
“He is definitely a domestic dog and I guess he has been abandoned,” said Spears.
“It is impossible to go near him. We need to find a way to get close to him, so that we can bring him in and find him a loving home.”
Dolphin Coast SPCA’s inspector and branch manager, Debbie Filmalter said this was a very delicate situation.
“We have been trying to trap the dog for over a week, but he does not go anywhere near the trap and we cannot get close to him. It is a difficult situation as we are worried that he might run onto the N2 if we try to catch him. We have not given up though.”
