Sunny day for gracious grandpa’s and grandma’s

It was a fun day in Hambanathi when the Association of Senior Citizens of Tongaat hosted the Gracious Grandma’s and Grandpa’s on October 28.

Association chairman Bob Gounden said the event was to honour the aged and celebrate their lives. There are 13 clubs and each had to choose one grandpa and one grandma to represent them for the title.

When it was time for them to strut their stuff, the grandma’s seemed to know their game better than the grandpa’s.

Indian aiya’s waved their saris to the crowd and most of the black gogo’s were blowing kisses while walking across the stage.

Yet the mkhulus and tatas decided to show their dance moves. But that was not bad at all, as the audience screamed and laughed in joy. They were having the time of their lives.

Vuyiswa Ngcobo (75) was crowned the Gracious Grandma and Venketas Chetty from the Flamingo club the Gracious Grandpa.

Chetty said that he was praying to be crowned the Gracious Grandpa and he was the happiest man on earth.

“I am very happy and my prayers have been answered today,” said Chetty.

Ngcobo said she did not expect the win but she was delighted.

“I cannot wait to show my grandchildren the title,” said Ngcobo.
