Ballito water crisis meeting

Attend this important meeting where a panel of experts will answer your water supply questions.

Widespread confusion and uncertainty regarding water supply issues in the Ilembe district will be addressed at a public meeting on Wednesday, April 20 at 5.45pm for 6pm at the Umhlali Country Club.

Organised by the Dolphin Coast Conservancy and Coastwatch KZN, the meeting seeks to provide clarity on where our community stands with regards to the drought and the roles played by Sembcorp Siza Water, Umgeni Water and the department of water and sanitation, and what are they doing to prevent repeats of the current water crisis.

A panel of experts, including a senior official from the Department of Water Affairs in Pretoria, has been assembled to answer questions and residents are invited to attend an informative question and answer session which will be facilitated by Cobus Oelofse, CEO of Ilembe Chamber of Commerce.

Experts will include:

  • Shyam Misra, CEO of Sembcorp Siza Water, who will describe the three-pronged approach currently being applied to keep their concession area going during the current drought conditions.
  • Steve Gilham, General Manager, Engineering and Scientific Services, Umgeni Water.
  • An executive representing Blythedale Resort (who will be installing a desalination plant to be run by a private company).
  • Simon Bundy, environmentalist.
  • Angela Masefield, Director, Integrated Water Resources Management, Department of Water Affairs.

An optional R20 donation at the door may be made towards the Conservancy.

A cash bar will be available at the club for drinks, but no catering other than bar snacks will be available.
