Training to heal a nation

The Vaseline Healing Project provided free training for nurses in the Ilembe area on treatment for patients with various skin conditions on May 6 at the Salt Rock hotel.

In September last year 193 world leaders committed to 17 Global Goals to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice and fix climate change within the next 15 years.

As one of Unilever’s Brands with Purpose, Vaseline is actively working toward goal three: Good health and well being, and is on a mission to help restore the skin of five million people living in vulnerable conditions by 2020.

The Vaseline Healing Project provided free training for nurses in the Ilembe area on treatment for patients with various skin conditions on May 6 at the Salt Rock hotel.

Working with lectures from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Nelson Mandela Medical school, Vaseline, together with Direct Relief are actively working toward training current and future medical professionals to identify and treat skin conditions.

Programme manager, Kevin Molley said that the course focused on training, product distribution and healing missions.

“We have recently treated skin conditions of 1700 people in India free of charge. The local training thus far has been held Ethekweni, PMB and now in Ilembe.”

Medical Officer, Jay Pillay said, “The course has been very educational. With climate change as well as various living conditions, its hard to keep up with the medical conditions. Courses like this keep us updated.”

As part of practical training for students, more than a 130 people received free treatment at the District Health Office in Durban on May 3.
