Protesters stone car causing accident, R102 Shakaskraal

Police recommend avoiding the area, especially in the early evening and through the night.

A mob of illegal protesters stoned a vehicle on the R102 at Shakaskraal last night, causing the vehicle to crash.

The driver, a man, was injured in the accident.

“He had been cut on the head after being hit with a rock and was taken to hospital,” said  IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst.

Last night protesters from Shayamoya came over onto the R102.

Toyi-toyi’ng and barricading of roads flared up in Shayamoya on Monday.

The people were up in arms over the lack of employment and attempted to set fire to the councillor, John Phahla’s home.

A crowd of people also stormed into the African National Congress offices in KwaDukuza on Monday demanding their complaints be heard.

The ANC have since criticised the police for the way they reportedly handled the illegal protests.

On Wednesday night a truck transporting cane was stoned and the driver assaulted on the Glendale Road near Shayamoya last night.

This was the second attack on cane trucks on that road in two weeks

The R102 is now open but police recommend avoiding the area in the early evening and through the night.
