BREAKING NEWS: Five Ballito Pro junior surfers in car accident

All the injured were stabilised before being transported to Netcare Alberlito Hospital for further treatment and observation.

Five Ballito Pro junior surfers and the father of one of the surfers were injured in a car accident at about 7.30am this morning.

The accident, a head-on collision with another vehicle, took place on the Chakas Rock link road (just off the N2 near the Simbithi Estate entrance).

The driver of the other vehicle, a woman, was also injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

Event organisers of the Ballito Pro, presented by Billabong, have confirmed that all the injured are in a stable condition at Netcare Alberlito Hospital in Ballito.

Event co-ordinator, Collette Bundy said the accident took place while the contestants were on route to take part in the Junior Series at Willard Beach which forms part of the international surfing competition.

“There were some injuries reported following the accident but medics were at the scene very quickly and all the injured were stabilised before being transported to Netcare Alberlito Hospital for further treatment and observation,” said Bundy.

“This is really such a terrible thing to have happened to these young contestants but we are pleased that they are safe and receiving the best possible care. We wish them a speedy recovery”, she said.
