Bumper entry for Chamber’s Entrepreneur competition

lembe Chamber Ceo, Cobus Oelofse said that they have received a mixture of both formal and informal business entries.

The Ilembe Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism has officially closed entries for the 2016 “Take your business to new heights” Entrepreneur Competition on Friday, June 24.

Ilembe Chamber Ceo, Cobus Oelofse said that they have received a mixture of both formal and informal business entries.

“Competition entries have come from all Ilembe district local municipalities and have been from a diverse group of industries with innovative and quality businesses. The programme will kick off on July 9 for an intense course of 12 sessions during which, the finalists will interrogate their businesses and business models,” said Oelofse.

The Entrepreneur competition was initiated by the Ilembe Chamber six years ago with the support of their main sponsors – ACSA King Shaka International Airport, Enterprise Ilembe and The North Coast Courier and aims to support established, small business owners in developing their respective businesses to a sustainable level.

Part of the programme has been designed by the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and USA-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Finalists will also be supported through mentorship by Chamber accredited mentors – “grey-heads” with invaluable business experience.

The result will be to give them a solid understanding of their business and its value to the community and economy.

“We have had an incredible response to the call via our social media and NCC for mentors. The quality of mentors that are willing to dedicate their time to helping budding entrepreneurs is heart warming,” said Oelofse.

With more than R60 000 in free advertising sponsored by The North Coast Courier, business development, funding, media exposure, business development mentoring and networking opportunities all up for grabs, its going to be a tough race to select the savviest entrepreneur in the district.

The announcement of the winners and the entrepreneur exhibition will take place on October 7 at Umhlali Country Club.
