Looking after their township
Entrepreneurs Vusumuzi Maduna and Syabonga Zulu want to show people that they have the power to change their own lives.
In Darnall’s Zamani township, where unemployment is rife, two young men are encouraging the jobless – especially women – to take their futures into their own hands.
Entrepreneurs Vusumuzi Maduna and Syabonga Zulu want to show people that they have the power to change their own lives.
According to the men, people in the townships tend to ignore opportunities considered menial and only focus on prestigious jobs.
“If you are uneducated it does not mean that you cannot become successful. Even if you have a qualification, while you looking for a job, do not be ashamed of doing a job regarded as only suitable for the uneducated,” said Maduna.
Maduna lives what he preaches. He is making a living out of a small recycling company. Zulu owns a video and photography business.
“We have seen girls in the township being wrongfully used by successful people in the name of helping them. We have seen people with lots of potential being wasted,” said Zulu.
“We have invited people who did not have the opportunity to study, but have still managed to be successful. You must get up and work hard for your success.”
