KwaDukuza serial rapist arrested after beating
He was linked to six counts of rape reported at Ntshawini, Etete, Tinley Manor and Umhlali this year.
A suspected serial rapist who lured women to him by promising them jobs was finally caught last Wednesday after members of the public caught up with the man, severely beating him.
This after The Courier reported last week that the hunt was on for the rapist.
KZN police spokesperson captain Nqobile Gwala told The Courier that the man was arrested at the KwaMaphumulo taxi rank in KwaDukuza.
He was linked to six counts of rape reported at Ntshawini, Etete, Tinley Manor and Umhlali this year.
“He was taken to hospital under hospital guard after he was assaulted by the people at the taxi rank.”
Two cases of rape believed to be at the hands of this rapist were recently reported to the Umhlali police.
“His modus operandi was to promise the victim’s jobs and lure them to a secluded area where he would threaten them with knife and a firearm before raping them,” said Gwala.
A Shaka’s Head woman was recently tricked by a job offer and raped in the veld next to the N2.
A Groutville woman was also promised a job on Wednesday, October 12 before being raped.
The man suggested that they take a train from Groutville to Tinley Manor – after getting off he led her down a pathway through some bushes where he held her at gunpoint and raped her.
The KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, major general Bheki Langa praised the police.
“We appreciate the help of the community in catching the criminals however we are warning them not to take law into their own hands.
“We strongly condemn the acts of vigilantism. If the culprit is apprehended, the police must be contacted.
“We appeal to other people who had been victims of the same incidents and who have not reported to the police, to come forward,” he said.
This is not the first such case that The Courier has reported on – in both May and July similar arrests were made in KwaDukuza where men would draw women out with job offers, before attacking and raping them.
Do not become the next victim of this method – when meeting someone for a job interview, or anything of the like, always meet in a public place and do not allow yourself to be led into secluded areas.
