Survey shows residents unhappy with KwaDukuza services
The municipality has not indicated how they plan to address the issues raised by the survey, but DA caucus leader Madhun Singh said it was clear the municipality's service delivery was not up to par.
More than half of KwaDukuza‘s residents are unhappy with the municipality’s service delivery, a recent consumer satisfaction survey has revealed.
Illegal dumping and the lack of library services were shown to be the main bugbears, scoring 58 and 68 per cent respectively, from the sample of 416 people from across the region who took part in the September survey, conducted by KDM.
Sixteen people per ward were interviewed, which included households, formal and informal businesses, schools and clinics.
Other areas of unhappiness were over littering (49%), public nuisance (disturbing the peace and similar violations that infringe on the rights of the public – 46%) and the service of municipal staff (30%), specifically their response time to queries and problems.
The municipality has not indicated how they plan to address the issues raised by the survey, but DA caucus leader Madhun Singh said it was clear the municipality’s service delivery was not up to par.
“If you take into account where the rating was classified as moderate and satisfactory, then in most cases more than half the residents are not happy,” said Sing.
A few of the respondent’s recommendations were that KDM should put out more skips and collect waste on time, that staff members obey set lunch times and build libraries in rural areas.
There are only six libraries in KDM.
Commenting on library services, KDM library manager Sihle Mathibela said it could be possible that people are not satisfied because of the lack of resources.
“Libraries cannot compete with the internet and people seem to compare the two. Libraries won’t always have the latest books and the books that are available have to be shared.
“People do not comply with rules and sometimes books are borrowed and not returned or returned too late. People do not like to wait.”
