Fisherman rescued at Salmon Bay, Ballito
The man was knocked off his paddle ski and pulled out in a strong rip.
A Ballito resident nearly drowned at Salmon Bay early this evening, at about 5.45pm.
According to Dylan Meyrick from IPSS the man, who was in his 30’s, was fishing off a paddle ski when he fell off in the surf zone and was washed past back line in the rip.
IPSS we called to help by a bystander who witnessed the man in trouble.
“An advanced life paramedic from the IPSS Rescue team swam out to the man and swam him back to shore using a torpedo buoy,” said Meyrick.
The rescued man was tired but otherwise unharmed.
This was the third sea rescue at Ballito in the past week and a half.
On November 1 a holidaymaker from Pretoria was swept out to sea at Clarke Bay and on Monday a Ballito resident rescued a holidaymaker from Mpumalanga at Thompson’s Bay.
