All quiet on the Shaka’s Head front
Electrical technicians abandoned their vehicle and ran for their lives.
Electrical technicians at Imbonini Park abandoned their vehicle and ran for their lives when they were stormed by an angry mob of Shaka’s Head residents during the power protest last night.
The N2 and R102 were reopened once the Public Order Policing unit arrived to restore order.
Umhlali SAPS spokesperson Vinny Pillay said the Shaka’s Head residents were upset because they falsely believed that Ballito and Salt Rock were being given preferential treatment during the area-wide electricity outage.
Shaka’s Head had reportedly experienced power outages since Friday and further problems were caused by the hailstorm that wrecked havoc in its wake on Saturday afternoon.
Power was restored to the township at about 9.45pm last night.
IPSS Medical Rescue paramedic Paul Herbst said during the confusion a commuter drove into an RTI vehicle at the roadblock.
“Luckily there were no injuries,” he said.
Ironically Umhlali police station were without power this morning.
