KwaDukuza cops send two rapists to jail

“These sentences will send a strong message as we are celebrating the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, and we will make sure that the rapists are locked behind the bars for a long time" - Major General Bheki Langa.

KwaDukuza Regional Court convicted and sentenced  Nkosinathi Trueman Msomi (34) to 13-years’ imprisonment for the rape of a woman (65) on Monday November 28.

The woman was asleep at her homestead at Ezibandleni in Glendale on December 24 2015, when she heard a noise at her window.

“Msomi forcefully grabbed and raped her,” said Captain Nqobile Gwala.

“A case of rape was registered at Glendale Police Station.

“The accused was immediately arrested and made several court appearances until his sentence.”

In a similar case, the Eshowe Regional Court sentenced Lungisani Mthembu to 20 years imprisonment for rape.

His sentence came after the court heard how he raped a 14-year-old girl who was on her way home from school.

Mthembu forced her into a nearby sugarcane plantation where he raped her on May 20 2016.

“A rape case was opened at Nyoni Police Station and Mthembu was arrested.

“Both cases were investigated by KwaDukuza Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.”

KZN Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Bheki Langa welcomed the sentences and applauded the detectives for their sterling work.

“These sentences will send a strong message as we are celebrating the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children.

“We will make sure that the rapist are locked behind the bars for a long time,” he said.
