Emergency number suspended over R2.4 million phone bill
The municipality believes they are being erroneously billed for products they did not agree to pay for.

The change of KwaDukuza municipality’s emergency number about a month ago was as a result of a dispute with Telkom over a bill of R2.4 million for the phone line.
The matter which is now being dealt with by the KwaDukuza legal team has been ongoing since December last year.
According to KwaDukuza corporate communications director Sifiso Zulu, the municipality was being billed R2.4 million for items that they did not agree to pay for.
“The disagreement over the bill was resolved in December last year and Telkom wrote off the amounts that both parties agreed were erroneously billed.
“The municipality honoured its side of the deal by paying that which had been recognised by both parties as owing to Telkom by KwaDukuza municipality.
“However, the erroneous billing continued in January and still reflected amounts for items we had agreed should not be appearing on the bill,” said Zulu.
The KwaDukuza municipality emergency number has since changed from 032-946 2711 to 032-437 5570.
