Business tackles crime in KwaDukuza
BAC provides a forum where the SAPS listen to the business community and the business community listens to the SAPS.
KwaDukuza SAPS have taken a giant step in getting the businesses in town to work with them to fight crime by forming a Business Against Crime (BAC) forum.
The committee was elected at RA Moodley Community Centre in KwaDukuza last Thursday afternoon.
To ensure this initiative is a success the Mandeni BAC manager Steve Fox said he is prepared to assist the KwaDukuza forum.
Fox said the BAC in Mandeni had made a huge difference and he was sure that KwaDukuza would see the fruit of it in no time.
“The Mandeni BAC provides support at station level in many aspects. We had a CCTV system installed at the Isithebe banking area. We run a very effective Whatsapp group with over 450 members and that group is linked with others from Pongola to Port Margate.
“We provide an armed patrol vehicle within the Isithebe area and we have just bought a camera drone for search and rescue purposes and also crime prevention,” said Fox.
Fox said the BAC is not a platform to throw stones at the SAPS, it is a platform to take those stones and make a bridge.
“BAC provides a forum where the SAPS listen to the business community and the business community listens to the SAPS. Both have their problems addressed with a concerted effort by all instead of individual efforts,” said Fox.
The cluster commander major general Mandlenkosi Chirwa assured the BAC members that this was a start of a great working relationship between police and business in KwaDukuza.
“From my experience I can assure you that should this partnership be strong, KwaDukuza will be a safe place,” said Chirwa.
The interim committee of the KwaDukuza BAC consists of Dr Ephraim Zungu, Muhammed Babeekee, Shain Manjoo and Jerome Sibisi
The committee members promised to make every effort to work with the police to fight crime in KwaDukuza.
Security companies were also encouraged to join the BAC.
