Head down to Concha for something delicious this December

Like most people at this time of year, I wanted to enjoy a meal by the beach, so I ventured to Concha in down town Ballito.
Concha has been open for only a few months and I can understand why it has already built up a following, as the venue is well laid out with a nice open atmosphere and the delicious baked goods look amazing. The staff are friendly, but they were a touch disorganized as we had a few different waiters trying to take our order (but besides that they did a good job).
The menu is straightforward, it’s not overly large but has enough of a selection to suit most tastes.
Before I get on to the food you must try their milkshakes. They are doing what I like to call loaded milkshakes (really next level). These are expensive but well worth it. The Milky Bar milkshake hit the spot for me. I also tasted the gourmet Barone milkshake topped with a chocolate croissant… it was incredible (but I may now have diabetes).
I had a panini with Portuguese ham, caramelised onions and Buffalo mozzarella. The panini was nice and fresh the mozzarella really added a rich and creamy aspect to the meal. If they had used normal mozzarella it wouldn’t have been as good.
It is important to not compromise with ingredients and saving a couple rand can ruin a dish. So, job well done.
My dining companion had a chicken salad which he also thoroughly enjoyed. The dressing was homemade which I always appreciate and had a nice mustard flavour that worked perfectly.
They seem to have a really solid concept going for them, it fills a nice gap in the restaurant industry of the Dolphin Coast and is a wonderful addition to downtown Ballito. The prices were a touch more than what I was expecting, but I think it is time we reevaluate our ideas of what a meal should cost.
I have been chatting to a couple of restaurant owners and things are tough out there. A friend from Cape Town said he couldn’t believe how cheap the food was here. He says most meals in Cape Town are over R100. So we are lucky as we can still find some great value for money.
I would like to wish all our readers and restaurants a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. I look forward to next year to see what exciting meals I can bring to you.
