ANCYL lash out at the press
The league accused The Courier of reporting "venemous information"
The ANC youth league in the KwaDukuza region have accused The North Coast Courier of misrepresentation in last week’s article titled ‘Kids bunk school for ANCYL march’.
On what was supposed to be the first day of school on January 11, thousands of pupils from KwaDukuza were taken out of classes to join the ANCYL protest against Ilembe region’s dismal matric performance and to demand the removal of district education director, Thembi Vilakazi.
Although the KZN education department said the league did not have permission to remove children from school, the league accused The Courier of reporting “venemous information”.
Education department spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi said: “There were no arrangements with the department to involve the learners in the march. We would not have allowed that because we want our learners and educators to be at school all the time without any disruptions.”
However, at a media briefing at the ANC office in KwaDukuza on Monday, the ANCYL accused The Courier of reporting “venomous information and fallacy to the general public”.
“We are aware whose interest are they serving, sooner (sic) we are going to expose such by name and shame them.”
They claimed that the Congress for South African Students (COSAS) had always planned to bring the pupils to the march.
“It’s venomous and mischievous to say that the ANCYL members took school children out of school to be a part of the last week’s mass action. Indeed we are not surprised by North Coast Courier, their blunted lies and narrow self-mandated agenda.”
Clearly on a roll, the ANCYL took another swing at the Bythedale Ratepayers and Resident’s Association, accusing them once again of being racist for complaining about the disruptions caused by the Blythedale beach parties during the festive season,
“The BBRRA is aggrieved and crying foul primarily because they have been misleading society and no one has been challenging them ever since. Now all of a sudden here comes the ANCYL in greater KwaDukuza region, going to wage a rentless (sic) fight against these opportunists who do not have anything to offer in society except even at a sub-conscious level hatred against black folk.”
Matters regarding local farming and financial assistance for needy students were discussed as well as the request to remove the Ilembe district director for education Thembi Vilakazi.
