Iconic Seatides ghost house captured in 3D

The iconic Seatides ghost house was demolished on June 9 last year

The Seatides “ghost house” as it was fondly called before it was demolished on its 90th anniversary last year, has now been preserved thanks to 3DroneMapping.

The grand old house was built in 1926 by Gurusamy Veerasamy Naidu, who lived there with his family for 68 years, and was one of the first houses in the area.

Initially, it was built as a single storey house with a huge roof garden.

In the 1960s the top floor was added.

It had lead stained glass windows and doors with pictures of ships, a Victorian-style bathroom and the house was built from teak wood.

In 1994 it was abandoned and over time vandalised.

Prominently situated on the seaside of the M4 next to Beach Bums restaurant and beach bar at Casuarina Beach, the house became a playground for graffiti artists and photographers (especially for wedding shoots) and became a must-visit site on the Dolphin Coast.

After it was demolished in less than an hour on June 9 last year, people from across the Dolphin Coast sent The Courier photos of their special moments at the haunted house.

Drone mapping

According to 3DroneMapping, the model was created in 2014 as a test to see how well the company could render a 3D model from photos taken from a drone.

A drone was flown around the structure one morning on a predefined route, capturing over 150 individual images.

The images need to overlap each other so that there is continuity between common points taken at different angles to calculate a 3D model.

The model was only recently calculated and rendered.
