Committee ready for action
In the first ward six meeting two weeks ago, members each chose their portfolios for the next five years
Newly-elected ward six (Ballito) councillor Tammy Colley is confident that there will be improved services in the new year, with help from her ward committee.
The ward committee’s main responsibility is to provide feedback from the community to council. With a dedicated committee of 11, the team is aiming for improved service delivery and happy residents.
In previous years, ward committees in Ballito and Salt Rock (Ward 22) were hamstrung by the fact that they were loaded with members who did not live in the ward and whose purpose was to pursue party interests.
However, KwaDukuza municipality’s new ward committee election rules ensure that all members have to be registered on the ward voters’ roll.
In the first ward six meeting two weeks ago, members each chose their portfolios for the next five years.
Colley said that although their integrated development plan has not yet been finalised, electing members to certain portfolios will give them a clear focus.
“There are 12 portfolios and they range from issues dealing with community safety to education.”
