ANCYL plans to disrupt Ballito Junction opening
The league has not given a reason for why they want to march
The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) plans to march to The Ballito Junction Regional mall on its official opening day next Thursday.
On March 10 the league submitted a formal request to KwaDukuza municipality to “embark on mass action”.
The march is requested for March 23 from 8am to 5pm.
According to the document the ANCYL promises to bring thousands of people to the protest.
The league has not given a reason for the march, however it is suspected that they are protesting against ‘the unjust distribution of economic freedom’ available to the youth in KwaDukuza.
The previous march to ABSA Ballito at the Junction earlier this year only saw approximately 100 people joining the toi-toi.
However a huge influx of traffic – up to 5000 cars – is expected next Thursday and it is feared that a march of any size could cause huge disruption.
DA Ward 22 councillor Malcolm Hubner said the league plans to hand over a memorandum to the mall management.
“We are not sure if they will be granted permission at this stage.
“I cannot see what they are unhappy about as The Junction has provided about 1500 job opportunities for the KwaDukuza region.”
