Good deeds are their own reward
“Many of these children are orphaned and have only one change of tatty, old clothes"
What do you do when you see a disadvantaged child shivering beside the road – do you just change the radio station and maybe feel a little sorry for him?
This was something Sheffield’s Trevor ‘Josh’ Clarke simply couldn’t do.
Clarke told The Courier that on a recent visit to Steven Davison Primary School in Inchanga (the Valley of a Thousand Hills) to drop off computers for the school, he witnessed children shivering wretchedly in the rain.
“Many of these children are orphaned and have only one change of tatty, old clothes,” Clarke said.
Deciding he needed to do something to help them, Clarke put out an appeal on the Dolphin Coast Neighbours group on Facebook for donations.
Together with another Sheffield resident, Jane Kuzlow, Clarke began gathering the clothes, books, toys, sporting equipment and more that kind hearted locals donated. A teacher at the school, Jason Abbey, said that the effect of these kind of donations cannot be overstated.
“We have very little at this school – even food on a daily basis is a struggle for a lot of the children.
“Donations like these will go a long way towards giving these children the opportunities they deserve in life.”
It is not only the Clarkes and Kuzlow getting into the giving spirit though.
The KwaMama centre in Shakaskraal also donated many things for the school. Hirsch’s also come to the party.
