Ward councillor report back – Malcom Hubner
We are still faced with some challenges with water problems being experienced in the greater Ballito area and surrounds

The past two weeks have been so turbulent for our country.
With struggle icons passing away, respected actors from our local stage and screen also leaving us and to crown it all a cabinet reshuffle where one of the most respected ministers, our finance minister and his deputy, were removed from office while others that have left the most vulnerable of our people worried about whether they will receive their social grants this month are still in office.
Tumultuous times to say the least.
On a more positive note we have witnessed the opening of what will be a jewel here on the North Coast, the new Junction mall.
Even though that was also not without its trials with the promised “peaceful march” turning into a chaotic spectacle.
However, we must be thankful that good planning on the part of the centre management and the authorities paid off with the public informed of the situation from early in the week and kept up to date throughout the process, we were not left with blood on the streets of Ballito.
A good outcome in the end.
On the administrative side we are still faced with some challenges with water problems being experienced in the greater Ballito area and surrounds.
Numerous burst pipes caused some late night challenges for the water authorities, nevermind the users who were trying to bath kids and prepare meals. Luckily with technology at our finger tips we were again able to keep the public aware of what was happening.
We are also no closer to solving the deteriorating road infrastructure in our area nor the traffic control outside the Tiffany’s shopping centre and Sasol garage.
Unfortunately this situation is not in the control of the local municipal authorities and rests squarely in the domain of the provincial transport department who are just not coming to the party and causing much frustration to us as councillors.
I take this opportunity to wish everyone a wonderful Easter holidays and may our visitors enjoy what this wonderful part of the North Coast has to offer.
