Tragedy strikes as man helps brother change tyre at Ballito
What seemed like a quiet Easter on the Dolphin Coast's roads came to an end this morning when one man died and eight were injured in a crash on the N2.
A man’s life was cut tragically short this morning when he went to help his brother change a flat tyre.
Lindo Mngadi from Richmond in Gingindlovu left home just after 7am when he received a call from his brother for help with a flat on the side of the N2 South just past the Ballito off-ramp.
According to IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst, Mngadi had stopped his Tata Indica behind his brother’s Taz well into the emergency lane and was standing alongside the car when a black BMW crashed into him from behind, crushing him against his car before hitting into the Taz.
The driver of the BMW told The Courier that he lost control of his vehicle, “It was all over so fast, I tried to bring it back under control but by then it was too late.”

IPSS Medical Rescue, Netcare 911 and KwaDukuza emergency services rushed to help but were too late to save Mngadi, who had succumbed to his injuries while his brother looked on helplessly.
“It all happened in a split second, I can’t believe it,” said Mngadi’s brother.
Eight other people, occupants of the three vehicles, were transported from the crash to various hospitals with injuries ranging from moderate to serious.
Herbst appealed to road users to be vigilant while driving.
“The roads are always more dangerous during the holiday periods, please be careful and make sure that a tragedy like this does not happen to you”, he said
