A love as strong as steel

Doug's life was celebrated by his family and friends with a full English breakfast, a display of classic vintage cars and live music after the unveiling of the steel heart

The Nidd family, founders of the Rain Farm Game and Lodge just 15 minutes inland from Ballito, honoured their late father and husband Doug Nidd with the unveiling of a steel love lock heart symbolising everlasting love on Sunday.

Rain Farm Game and Lodge marketing and public relations officer Brittany Mason said Doug spent his last days working on the chapel at the game lodge.

“He was on treatment for cancer that used to keep him awake at night. He kept busy by working on the lodge.”

The vintage car show was in honour of Doug Nidd who used to restore vintage cars.

The love lock steel heart was built by Doug’s sons and took months to complete.

“People will be able to lock their engraved locks on the steel heart where it will remain forever. They can then make a wish and throw the key into the pond. The idea was inspired by the love lock bridge in France. The steel hear symbolises the unbreakable love and commemorates Doug’s life long achievements as a pillar of strength to his family and community,” said Mason.
