Animal lovers protest outside Chinese consulate in Durban
China, South Korea and Indonesia are three of the worst animal rights abusers in the world
Concerned local animal lovers gathered at the Chinese consulate in Durban on Saturday to protest the ongoing abuse and slaughter of cats and dogs in this country.
Khetani Animal Rescue’s Judy van der Westhuizen told The Courier that she was ashamed to be human when she hears of the torture of animals in Asian countries.
“We want to create awareness to get people to change their ways,” Van der Westhuizen said.
Khetani Animal Rescue is a local NPO that concentrates its efforts in helping animals in the Central Berg and the North Coast.

“Ours is just one small protest taken together with hundreds of others around the globe. If necessary, we want people to boycott the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.”
She said that she wants the abuse – and specifically the slaughter for food – of dogs and cats to stop.
“Every day we are exposed to the most horrific images from certain Asian countries depicting the eating of dogs and the like. If you would like to know what is going on in these countries, visit the Nam Kim or Soi Dog Foundation Facebook pages and you’ll see what we’re talking about.”
According to van der Westhuizen, China, South Korea and Indonesia are three of the worst animal rights abusers in the world.
