Ballito’s SPCA charity shop in desperate need

Empty shelves at the Dog Box is a sign of tough times ahead for The Dolphin Coast SPCA

The usual steady stream of donations to the SPCA charity shop in Ballito has all but dried up.

The Dolphin Coast SPCA relies heavily on the income generated by their charity shop – The Dog Box – that sells a treasure trove of second-hand goods.

In 2016 the store raised over R1 million for the animals in their care.

Volunteer Maggie Anderson appealed to the public to reach into their hearts and dig deep in their cupboards to restock the shelves.

“The shop is empty!

“We are in desperate need of your kind donations. Anything you can donate will be very much appreciated.

“We have had the worst week, financially, in a very, very long time.”

Anderson said donations over the past month had been particularity slow.

“I do not know why, perhaps it is the financial climate, but we need to turn it around.”

The Dog Box is situated on Jack Powell Road in the Boulevard Centre.

The store stocks every kind of second-hand goods, from clothes and bric a brac to books, glassware, jewellery, crockery and small furniture items.

The staff are all unpaid volunteers and the profits are used by the Dolphin Coast SPCA in the care of lost, injured, abused, unwanted and abandoned animals.

The shop is open from Monday to Friday from 10am till 4pm and on Saturdays from 9am till 12.30pm.

So empty your closet and head down to the Dog Box today.
