Infrastructure improvements planned for Ballito and Salt Rock

The KwaDukuza municipality’s final adjustment budget of the 2017/2018 financial year revealed plans for much-needed infrastructure improvements in parts of Ballito and Salt Rock.
With the rapid development of the Dolphin Coast, the area’s infrastructure has taken strain against the growing population.
KDM’s final draft adjustment budget showed R2 million allocated to the improvement of toilet facilities at Salt Rock beaches as well as a separate R1 million for Willard Beach.
There was much needed good news for motorists with R250, 0000 allocated to the reconstruction of some of the potholed roads in Ward 6, Ballito.
A further R13 million was allocated to the renovation of the eyesore that has become the Ballito Civic centre, while a small portion of the money will be used to fix street lights in Ballito and Salt Rock.
Repairs and construction of infrastructure, community halls and beach rehabilitation took priority in other KwaDukuza wards.
DA Ward 6 Ballito councillor Tammy Colley said she was pleased with the money allocated to Ward 6, but that she worried about how long it would take to complete the projects.
“I know that money has been allocated to the reconstruction of roads but I am not yet sure which roads they will be fixing.
“This was a major concern for me because our roads have been falling apart, so I am glad that we are finally going to have something done. I just hope that it does not drag on.
“The renovation of the Ballito Civic Centre has already gotten underway and should be complete by September.”
The R1.4 billion adjustment budget presented two weeks ago in line with KDM’S five-year integrated plan showed that the municipality is currently financially stable with an R8, 854,715 surplus which will go into their reserves.
The adjustment budget has not yet been approved.
