Construction underway for new Stanger mall

The R1.5 billion KwaDukuza mall and recreation centre currently being built in Stanger will create over 2000 direct jobs and 1893 indirect jobs.

This was revealed by billionaire property developer and owner of the mall, Vivian Reddy, during the sod turning on Thursday afternoon.

“Phase one will be complete in September next year,” said Reddy.

There would be more than 120 national and regional stores, with 30% of the stores being reserved for local businesses.

Reddy said the mall is already 85% rented out, with the major anchors being Woolworths, Checkers and Pick & Pay.

KwaDukuza mayor Ricardo Mthembu and KwaZulu-Natal MEC for economic development, tourism and environmental affairs, Sihle Zikalala emphisised that locals should be the ones benefitting from the mall.

“The fact that you are a local resident or business person, does not mean you automatically qualify. It all comes down to how you present yourself and ensuring that you have the necessary requirements needed,” said Mthembu.

Once complete the centre will include a 30 000 sq. m. shopping mall, civic centre, one-stop centre for government services and amphitheatre.
