TAKE NOTE: Taxi protest disrupts traffic

Traffic flow between Salt Rock and Ballito is back to normal

Motorists travelling south towards Durban are advised to use alternative routes this morning due to an organised protest march by the South African Taxi Association (SANTACO).

The march is said to take place outside Toyota on Prospecton Road in Isipingo between 8am and 11am.

The reason for the protest is the perceived inflated selling prices Toyota charges for minibuses, and the commercial agreement between Toyota and industry role players like SA Taxi, who are believed to charge exorbitant interest rates on installment agreements.

SANTACO chairperson Boy Zondi has confirmed that parts of the N2 have been blocked due to the high volume of taxis heading south.

Three taxis from each taxi association, including KwaDukuza, Maphumulo, Kraanskop and the Dolphin Coast, are making  their way to the sports field in Avenue East and proceed to Prospecton.

Traffic flow between Salt Rock and Ballito is back to normal.

The R102 between Shakaskraal and Tongaat is also to be avoided.

The N2 north bound is reportedly clear.

Although there will be a high police presence closely monitoring the proceedings, motorists are advised to be extremely cautious when travelling and if possible, stay clear from the affected areas.
