Umhlali crisis centre needs your help
Umhlali police are struggling to keep the trauma centre up and running
The Umhlali SAPS trauma and crisis centre is in dire straits and needs donations if it is going to continue to help those in need.
Umhlali police spokesperson Vinny Pillay told The Courier they need everything from paint to canned foods and blankets.
They also desperately need a fridge in the centre.
“If anyone has a second-hand fridge that they can donate it will make a world of difference,” said Pillay.
The centre is used to provide a safe space for victims of crime, particularly women and children who need to be housed after abuse.
Pillay said the recent heavy weather had also caused damage to the prefab building, causing it to start sinking in places and leaving it in need of a new coat of paint.
They are appealing for donations of blankets, canned food, clothing, a fridge, paint and any other goods that can be used in revamping the trauma centre and making it one to be proud of.
Mandela Day is also coming up on July 18 and Umhlali SAPS is getting an early start in collecting goods to hand over to the less fortunate.
“We will welcome donations of food, blankets and whatever else you can spare – I will come fetch it myself if needs be.”
If you are interested in donating for Mandela Day, or if you can help Umhlali SAPS to stock or revamp their trauma centre, contact warrant officer Vinny Pillay at 073 310 0103.
