About 150 ANC Youth League members made their way to the Ballito Junction this morning to stage what they deem as ‘the first of many’ demonstrations against the mall.
Although originally planned to take place on the P445 opposite the mall, the crowd made their way to the entrance of the old Junction where they remained for approximately three hours before dispersing.
Shoppers wanting to use the old mall entrance were turned away and sent to the underground parking, however no other disruptions were made.
The picket comes three months after the league voiced their anger at the Junction’s response to their memorandum which was handed to the mall management during mass protest action in March.
The protest action took place after the League accused the mall of not providing jobs for unemployed KwaDukuza youth.
ANCYL said today's picket was to remind Ballito Junction that they "did not forget about them." @nccourier

Regional secretary Musa Zondi said today’s picket was only a smaller version of what is still to come.
“This is only a picket, not a protest. When we stage our mass protest, we plan on bringing together more than 8 000 people.”
