Dare2Share: Getting to know the homeless of Durban
Spend the evening sharing the city, your food, your music and a prayer with the homeless and vulnerable people of the city of Durban
Join the team from the Denis Hurley Centre, iCare and their partners for the annual Dare2Share event this Friday (July 14).
Spend the evening – or even the whole night – sharing the city, your food, your music and a prayer with the homeless and vulnerable people of the city of Durban.
“Those of us used to more comfortable living arrangements will have the chance to share the city after dark with some of the homeless people who are on the streets every night,” said Raymond Perrier, Denis Hurley Centre director.
“Those who want to, can unroll their sleeping bags and share the night with the homeless by sleeping out under the stars in the Cathedral Mall. Though this part is optional!”
The venue is the Cathedral Mall alongside the Denis Hurley Centre, 2 Cathedral Rd, in the city. The area will be fenced off and secured for the event.
Live music will be provided by John Ellis, Michael Wagner and friends between 6pm and 10.30pm.

In the run up to this event, the centre is using Twitter for the first time, to help readers to get to know the homeless of Durban through some of the key statistics that were made available last year with HSRC as part of the survey sponsored by Safer Cities.
Each day one or two facts about homeless people in Durban will be delivered by Twitter @DenisHurleyDBN orFacebook.
