Safe place for addicts and abuse victims
The Against Drugs and Child Abuse (ADCA) group recently launched a new drop-in centre in Ballito
There is a new safe place in Ballito for those struggling with substance addiction and children who are being abused.
The Against Drugs and Child Abuse (ADCA) group recently launched a new drop-in centre.
“This was an incredible day for me,” said ADCA founder Rex Hunt.
Hunt said in 2013 he received a vision from God to help drug addicts in the community and spent a long time looking for a building where he could provide that help.
“Eventually I went to The Courier and spoke with Bruce Stephenson and, to my surprise, he said I could use the space above their depo free of charge.”
It has taken nearly four years for Hunt to complete the centre and realise his dream of providing a safe space for addicts and victims of abuse but finally it has all come together.
“Four times I nearly gave up,” said a clearly emotional Hunt at the launch, “But my son would say to me: this is your ark dad, build it one plank at a time.”
Hunt thanked his family for their unwavering support throughout his mission to provide a safe place for the most vulnerable in our community as well as all the many roleplayers who have made it possible for ADCA to provide this space.
Hunt stressed that they are not a rehab, halfway house or feeding scheme – but a drop in centre where people can freely come and get counselling.
“As our tight-knit community grows, so too do dangerous social challenges such as drug abuse. We are proud to be able to help passionate people such as Rex who make a positive difference in the place we all call home,” said North Coast Courier general manager Pieter Naudé.

“When a hand reaches out for help, I want to be there to take it!”, said Hunt.
