Taxi association fires local taxi conductors
The conductors’ jobs were to collect money, open and close the door for passengers and wash the taxis
Dolphin Coast taxi commuters have raised an outcry after the association fired all its conductors recently.
The conductors’ jobs were to collect money, open and close the door for passengers and wash the taxis.

Now, commuters say, much time is being wasted while the driver stops to look for passengers.
Others feel that an accident is sure to happen as the driver may be tempted to count money while driving. Both these jobs were done by the conductors.
Dolphin Coast Taxi Association spokesperson Sunshine Mthiyane said they had to let the conductors go because they were stealing money, not washing the taxis and many were using drugs.
“I know that there were those who were taking their job seriously. It a pity that they all had to be fired,” said Mthiyane. He said he does understand that it will take time for people to get used to taxis with no conductors.
“It is working in other places and we are sure it will work here too,” said Mthiyane.
