Sector policing to curb crime in Tongaat
"The only way to fight crime is to work together. Often community members have information that we do not know."

Each area in Tongaat now has a designated SAPS police officer, working with the community to fight crime.
Sector policing sees that the different areas of a police station are divided into smaller, manageable areas known as sectors.
For each area, Tongaat SAPS will have a police officer known as a sector commander.
Tongaat SAPS spokesperson Patrick Ngwane said the community and their sector commander are to work together in ensuring local safety and security.
“The goal is to bring about effective crime prevention through communication and joint effort.
“The only way to fight crime is to work together. Often community members have information that we do not know.”
