R150 million injected into goodwill
The Sibaya Community Trust was celebrating reaching a milestone of over R150 million spent on supporting 220 projects across a range of areas
It was all glitz and glamour at the Sibaya Community Trust gala dinner held at Sibaya’s Sun Park on Friday night.
The trust was celebrating reaching a milestone of over R150 million spent on supporting 220 projects across a range of areas from education to health care and social developments in KZN.
The outstanding work done by the trust was praised by King Goodwill Zwelithini, emphasising that if more people can follow in the footsteps of Vivian Reddy, the country and KZN, in particular, can overcome poverty.

“Vivian and your team, you are doing a very good job my brother and I will always be grateful for the amount of work you have to done in this province,” said Zwelithini.
The Sibaya Community Trust supports a number of charity organisations on the North Coast, including KwaDukuza Child Welfare.
The welfare’s senior social worker manager Penny Dhaver said they had been benefiting from the Trust since 2013.
“Without the funding we get from the Trust it would be very difficult if not impossible to run our many projects,” said Dhaver.
Other local projects initiated by the Trust included the Chief Albert Luthuli Skills Centre in Shakaville and the Matric Academic Development Initiative (MADI).
Sibaya Community Trust chairman Tristan Kaatze said this achievement placed the organisation among the most prolific funders of community initiatives nationally.

“R63 million had been spent on social causes including poverty alleviation projects and caring for the elderly and infirm. R59 million had been allocated to educational projects for the development of infrastructure, tutoring of pupils and supporting of early childhood development initiatives and R21 million had been given to health related projects including caring for the sick and dealing with the HIV and Aids crisis in the province,” said Kaatze.
He said they had built close to 50 community spaces including classrooms, children homes, clinics and creches, trained hundreds of teachers and facilitators at the centres province-wide and provided several organisations with new vehicles.
The event was attended by high profile people from the entertainment industry, government officials and political leadership.
