Triple trouble makes history at Stanger Hospital

The emotional Thembeni mother said she was very proud that she was able to safely deliver her three boys: Simphiwe, Qaphela and Qhaphelani

The maternity staff at the Stanger Hospital were overjoyed to welcome the first set of triplets to be born at the hospital last week.

Nomvelo Dlamini delivered her triplets at the Stanger Hospital on Tuesday, August 22, filling the hospital with joy and pride. The maternity ward nurses paraded the babies around the ward for all to see.

The reason triplets have never before been born at the hospital was that mothers carrying three had previously been referred to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital.

The emotional Thembeni mother said she was very proud that she was able to safely deliver her three boys: Simphiwe, Qaphela and Qhaphelani.

“My boys are healthy and I cannot wait to go home with them.

“I would like to thank the hospital for the treatment these past two months that I spent here in preparation for the delivery,” said Dlamini.

The 26-year-old is now a mother of four children as she also has a five-year-old daughter, Noxolo.

She said she was very surprised and also nervous when she was told that she was carrying triplets. But she was grateful for the support of the nurses who calmed her down and helped her to mentally prepare.

Dr Theron Moodley said they discovered at a very early stage that she was carrying triplets and closely monitored her.

“We had to keep her close to us to ensure that we would be able to help her as soon as she went into labour,” said Moodley.

He said they are currently helping her with breast feeding and she will be going home soon.

Dlamini and her boys received gifts from the hospital staff on Friday. Should you also want to contribute, you can call the hospital’s PRO Pumla Mba at 032-4376000.
