The taxi was traveling in the fast lane on the N2 north bound when, according to the taxi passengers, the driver swerved out of the way of a vehicle which had crossed into his lane.

The taxi lost control resulting in a head on collision with a VW Amarok driving on the N2 south bound.

The taxi reportedly burst into flames on impact.

IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Paul Herbst said the taxi passengers were being pulled out from the blazing vehicle by motorists and residents from the nearby village.

“One person burnt to death in the taxi, while another severely burnt patient died in the hospital. The Amarok was carrying a family with two kids and they were all moderately injured,” said Herbst.

Later that day two vehicles collided on the N2 north bound between Zinkwazi and Mandeni.

One of the two vehicles was torn apart when it collided with a barrier. Both occupants were deceased upon arrival of paramedics.

Four occupants of the second vehicle escaped with minor to moderate injuries.

On Saturday evening two vehicles collided head on, on the R102 near Tugela bridge.

One person was declared dead on arrival of Paramedics.

The driver of the second vehicle sustained moderate injuries and was taken to hospital.
