TAKE NOTE: Free rabies inoculations

All domestic animals must be vaccinated to reduce the risk to people and other animals

The Department of Agriculture (Veterinary Services) in Ilembe District will be holding a rabies inoculation campaign within KwaDukuza local municipality area in October.

Rabies is a contagious viral disease spread by infected animals. It is a zoonotic disease i.e. a disease which can be transmitted from animals to people.

Rabies is a dread disease in humans and warm-blooded vertebrates, which is transmitted by the bite of an infected animal, most commonly dogs.

The virus is present in the saliva of an infected person or animal.

All domestic animals must be vaccinated to reduce the risk to people and other animals.

Puppies and kittens must be vaccinated at three months of age, thereafter animals are to be vaccinated annually.
