New mall on the block for North Coast

Home to more than 110 stores, thousands flooded to get in on the action at the new Cornubia Mall that opened its doors last week.

Speaking at the launch of the 65 000m² shopping centre at Cornubia near Mount Edgecombe, head of Investec Property South Africa, Darryl Mayers said the mall would be a link between the local communities and economic development.

Studies of the DNA of a 2 000-year-old skeleton found in the Sibudu cave near Tongaat in the 1960’s, have led scientists to push back the date for the emergence of modern humans worldwide by as much as 100 000 years.

Connor Ahern is a teenager from Ballito who has, in his brother Declan’s words, “endured and overcome far more hardship in his 18 years than most people can handle in a lifetime”.

Beware of ATM criminals on the North Coast

Police are concerned about a surge of ATM-related crime on the North Coast, with at least a dozen incidents reported every week.

Umhlali SAPS spokesperson Vinny Pillay said crimes like card theft and card cloning have drastically increased in the last six months on the Dolphin Coast alone.

Huge spike in domestic abuse reports

Rape and domestic abuse on the Dolphin Coast have drastically increased with September seeing the highest number of reported cases at Umhlali SAPS this year.

According to Umhlali SAPS spokesperson Vinny Pillay, there were a number rape and assault cases being reported at the station almost every week.
