New-look centre for Salt Rock

An extension of the existing Salt Rock Shopping Centre will see the building revamped to suit the rapidly developing Dolphin Coast

A new look shopping centre will soon breathe fresh life into the town of Salt Rock – opening its doors in July next year.

According to Salt Rock Hotel administration and marketing consultant Brian Carr, an extension of the existing Salt Rock Shopping Centre will see the building revamped to suit the rapidly developing Dolphin Coast.

“The centre will be 2000m2 with the anchor tenant, Food Lover’s Market taking 1400m2 .

“There will be a further mix of retail and office space as well as a coffee shop.”

Carr said while the retail outlets for the three storey ‘green building’ is still being decided on, the plans accommodated for the traffic flow.

“There will be 700 parking bays on the rooftop which should be sufficient. We would also like to have a traffic circle at the entrance but we do not anticipate any traffic flow problems.”

“What we are going to develop is going to be along the lines of what we have in the past except a lot bigger and better.”

Salt Rock resident Wesley Smith said the area was in need of more shopping options.

“My wife and I moved here nearly two and a half years ago and it is a wonderful area but with very few shopping options. It would be nice to have a place to pop by to buy groceries or to grab a cup of coffee without going to a busy mall.”

However, DA Salt Rock councillor Malcolm Hubner says the council and transport department needed to take into account properly maintaining infrastructure such as roads to accommodate the growth on the Dolphin Coast.

“A traffic study found that traffic volumes have increased in KwaDuuza from 3000 cars a day to 18000 cars a day and the roads are littered with pot holes. To welcome such positive developments, we must have good road networks.”
