Curro headmaster shows himself out

The principal of Curro Mount Richmore school, De Wet Wentzel, has resigned following an investigation of alleged mismanagement

Staff from the private school in Salt Rock told the Courier that an executive from Curro Holdings flew in two weeks ago and suspended Wentzel pending an internal investigation.

In a letter sent to parents on October 18, the school announced that Curro Holdings regional head for KZN, Shaun McMurty, and senior management would take on the responsibility of the school in Wentzel’s absence.

However, the hearing that was set to take place this Monday in conclusion to the investigation, took an unexpected turn when Wentzel reportedly resigned with immediate effect earlier that morning.

In a statement, McMurty said Wentzel, who had been head for almost two of the school’s three year existence, terminated his employment with Curro Holdings on grounds of ‘irreconcilable differences.’

“We take this opportunity to express our gratitude to Mr Wentzel for the significant contribution that he made during his tenure as executive head of Curro Mount Richmore and would like to extend our best wishes to him in his future professional endeavours.”

McMurty and the school management team will manage the school until a replacement is found.
