UPDATE: Pilot on the mend after microlight accident
The pilot experienced difficulties while trying to land due to a freak microburst of wind

The pilot and passenger of a microlight that crashed near Groutville on Sunday afternoon are both on the mend following the accident.
Although conditions were clear, the pilot, who is from the North Coast, experienced difficulties while trying to land due to a freak microburst of wind.
This is according to David Daniels who owns the private airfield where the microlight crashed.
A microburst is a small downdraft that moves in a way opposite to a tornado. Microbursts are found in strong thunderstorms, and in some cases appear in clear conditions.
The aircraft crashed on the runway, flipping over multiple times.
“No one was critically injured,” said Daniels.
“The pilot went in to surgery for a broken ankle, broken hip and is now stable and in high spirits.
“The passenger suffered a flesh wound to the head and has been discharged and is on his way home.”
