Lions in the community
The Lions recently donated 50 chairs and three stationary cupboards - to the value of R12 000 - to Osizweni School in Upper Tongaat.
The Ballito Lions have been busy on the Dolphin Coast recently, organising awareness walks, donating to schools and giving poor children a day out and about.
Of course, we all saw the big Breast Cancer Walk where the Lions paint the town pink, but they have also been doing some behind the scenes work.
The Lions recently donated 50 chairs and three stationary cupboards – to the value of R12 000 – to Osizweni School in Upper Tongaat.
“This school is very rural and requires a lot of assistance, the building itself is in a very poor condition,” said Lion Paul Naidoo.
“Over the years we have supplied them with 80 chairs. We have also supplied school shoes and jerseys for winter. The kids walk up to 20km to school with no shoes or warm clothes.”
The men in blue also recently hosted 40 children from rural areas for a fun day at the Lions Hall at Townsend Park. This is the fourth annual outing for disadvantaged children.
“We fetch these children from the townships who have never experienced an outing.”
The children had a tasty breakfast before enjoying a morning of soccer and netball with Footy’s Kyle Crichton (also a Lion).
Then it was time to bring out the big guns as the men and women of the KwaDukuza Fire Department came out in their big, yellow fire engine to chat with the children.
They discussed fire safety and first aid before the kids got up close and personal with hoses, lifting bags and – the crowd favourite – the jaws of life.
Thereafter the kids each had a boerie roll and received a personal package before heading home.
