Shoes for young Etete dancing stars
A couple from Brettenwood Coastal Estate donated 22 dancing shoes after the Courier published a story about youngsters who were dancing barefoot and in torn tekkies and sandals.

Twenty-two of the 37 Latin and ballroom dancers from Velani Township in Etete finally got to own a pair of dancing shoes for the first time on Saturday.
This came after a couple from Brettenwood Coastal Estate donated 22 dancing shoes after the Courier published a story about youngsters who were dancing barefoot and in torn tekkies and sandals.

Although they were happy to receive the shoes, they still need dancing shoes for the remaining 15 dancers and dancing clothes as they are preparing for the SALGA games to be held next month.
Championed by their coach Siya Gumede, they meet at the Velani Community Hall every afternoon for practice and the hours have paid off, winning them numerous competitions around KZN.

Producing Ilembe’s champions since 2014, members of the group have represented the region in the SALGA games every year.
Recently two couples were selected for the provincial team for 2017 and they won a trophy for having the highest number of dancers placing first at the 2016 Umgungundlovu Championship.
“I am running out of words to express our gratitude to these wonderful people who helped us. We pray and hope that more people will donate to these youngsters,” said Gumede.

Many of the children come from poor families and this puts talented children at risk of quitting the sport.
“I am sure my children would be able to go far if they had the correct clothes and shoes for dancing,” said Gumede.
To help the children you can contact Gumede on 072 8869 592.
