Freak wave pushes boy to his death at La Mercy lagoon
The boy is believed to have been from a local settlement near La Mercy.

A nine-year-old boy drowned when a freak wave washed him into the La Mercy lagoon on Saturday afternoon.
SAPS Search and Rescue unit commander Dave Steyn said they spent about an hour looking for the boy together with the K9 Unit’s Ghost.
“The lagoon was closed and a freak wave washed up the beach with the incoming tide, which pushed the boy into the lagoon. The lagoon has an immediate four metre deep drop off. The boy did not stand a chance,” said Steyn.
The boy is believed to have been from a local settlement near La Mercy.
