TAKE NOTE: Bar coded ID lifespan will not end in 2018
The green ID books are not going to go out of use any time soon.

A message doing the rounds on social media stating that green barcoded ID books will no longer be valid from March 31 2018, has been dismissed.
The department of Home Affairs confirmed that the message is false.

The green ID books are not going to go out of use any time soon.
Those who wish to apply for Smart ID cards now, can do so at any of the 180 offices that are already equipped with the Live Capture System.
South Africans can also apply for Smart IDÂ Cards FNB, Standard Bank, Nedbank and ABSA branches.
