Gordhan’s ‘stinky’ Stanger visit
Members of the ANCYL dumped buckets of faeces at the entrance of the Stanger Siva Sungum Hall before Gordhan’s arrival.

Former finance minister Pravin Gordhan’s visit to Stanger yesterday turned into a stinky affair when members of the ANCYL dumped buckets of faeces at the entrance of the Stanger Siva Sungum Hall before Gordhan’s arrival.
The incident took place at a fundraising event organised by the Concerns Citizens Group (CCG) who are known for being against the development of the King Shaka Mall, owned by Vivian Reddy.
Gordhan was invited as a guest speaker.
ANCYL members hurled stones outside the hall in an apparent protest against the CCG’s attempts to stall the development of the King Shaka Mall.
Upon discovery of the faeces, Gordhan was escorted out the hall by his bodyguards but returned later, only to have his speech disrupted by protestors who broke through the door and threw food into the hall.
However, ANCYL in the greater KwaDukuza region secretary Musa Zondi said the organisation did not plan to disrupt the event but that members acted in their personal capacity.
This despite one of the ANCYL branch secretaries, Lucky Mbokazi, having admitted that he had organised minibus taxis to transport supporters with the purpose of disrupting the event.
“From what I know, the protest was because people were unhappy with the CCG’s attempts to stall the development of the mall. We cannot confirm or deny if the members responsible for the disruption belong to the ANCYL but we can say that they acted in their personal capacity as the organisation did not plan a protest,” said Zondi.
