School pupils using Zambuk to hide dagga
Two pupils from Nonhlevu and Inkosi Chief Albert Luthuli Secondary School were recently found with dagga seeds mixed in Zambuk, commonly used as a lip-ice.

The notorious ‘space muffins’ – muffins baked with dagga – are now being replaced with Zambuk in many KwaDukuza schools as a way of staying ‘high’ during school hours.
According to Ilembe cluster SAPS spokesperson, constable Sibusiso Khuzwayo two pupils from Nonhlevu and Inkosi Chief Albert Luthuli Secondary School were recently found with dagga seeds mixed in Zambuk, commonly used as a lip-ice.

“We found out that children smoke dagga before going to school and put dagga seeds in Zambuk. When they apply Zambuk on their mouth, the seeds keep them high for a long time. Teachers only see a child who is taking care of his or her mouth, not knowing that he is actually consuming dagga.”
He said some will take a normal curry, especially one made with herbs, and due to the colour of herbs, it is very difficult to see that it had been mixed with dagga.
“Parents must keep a close eye on their children during the school holiday and check their lunch box when they do go to school.”
